Don't lose your hoops! How to secure the Gourd Hoops
The gourd Hoops are some of my all-time best-sellers because they are super lightweight and effortless to wear. Who doesn’t love a hoop? And this voluptuous, lucky gourd shape is a fun twist on a classic hoop— one of my favorite designs to make and I wear them all the time myself!
I designed these hoops, and the large slash hoops, with a built-in clasp. They are super easy to secure so that you don’t lose a hoop!
Here’s how:
Gently pull the hoop open. Once the ear wire is out of the hole at the back side of the hoop, you can open the gap laterally to slip the ear wire through your piercing.
Once the ear wire is through your piercing, close the earring with two hands, clicking the ear wire back into the hole in the back of the hoop.
Avoid misshaping the hoop by prying it too far apart! Lateral motion when opening is key to maintaining the unique hoop shape.

Cast in solid sterling silver. Sterling silver post and rubber back.
To wear, insert the post through the holes in the hoop and through your piercing. Secure in back with the rubber earring back.

*Why are there two birthstones for October? While opal is what typically comes to mind as the October birthstone, it is very soft and therefore difficult to find in a small size for this application. As a result, opal will be available while supplies last. Pink Tourmaline is another alternative birthstone for the month of October and a harder, more durable stone.
10 mm diameter hammered hoop in sterling silver or 14k gold-fill can be worn as a nose ring, septum ring, cartilage hoop, or huggie hoop on the ear lobe.
Slide in through the back of piercing and twist all the way around. The small bend in the hoop prevents hoop from falling out!

These hoops were born from a mistake: the original carved wax piece was meant to be a ring, but the molten metal didn’t flow all the way through the mold. This process happen twice (this can happen— sand casting is a rudimentary and ancient process!), creating two asymmetrical pieces from the same wax-carve prototype. I decided to make them into hoops, rather than melt them back down because they were so perfectly imperfect!
I enjoyed wearing these hoops so much, I decided to cast them to order using recycled scrap from me studio.
