Brass Jewelry Care: Clean tarnish with this natural method using household products

Brass, like sterling silver, will tarnish over time due to natural oxidation. Fortunately, when you notice your pieces are getting a bit dull, it’s super easy to brighten them up!

This tutorial will show you how to easily clean tarnish from your brass jewelry pieces using all-natural stuff you probably already have around the house. No harsh chemical cleaners necessary.

You will need:

  • baking soda

  • lemon or lemon juice (lime juice works too)

  • an old toothbrush or a cotton pad

  • a paper towel or dishcloth

Procedure:

  1. Take a small amount of baking soda and mix with a squeeze of lemon juice. You can use store bought lemon juice, or a lime— it doesn’t matter! Use whatever' you’ve got.

  2. Mix into a paste— you don’t have to be very precise with measurements and ratios, you just want a paste-like texture.

  3. Use an old toothbrush or a cotton pad to scrub the paste into the brass. If your piece has stones or decorative patina, avoid these areas with the paste.

  4. Rinse in water and dry thoroughly with a dishcloth or paper towel.

Helpful hint: To keep your brass pieces bright and shiny, I recommend storing your jewelry in a ziplock bag, or a dry place (not in your bathroom). Remove your jewelry when showering or swimming.
